Research Statement

By investigating notions of performance, personal identity and ideology within diverse frames of critical enquiry, I have developed the scope to integrate my studio work into broader philosophical practices. I seek to expand on my practice led research and to fold my knowledge into the teaching discipline. My study has opened up avenues into cross-disciplinary intersections between art, technology, fashion and dance; as well as broader cultural histories such as new-media, performance studies, feminism and Queer theory. The question guiding my research has been ‘How is Queer identity shaped by personal experience and memory, as well as collective histories, in relation to the history of AIDS and proliferation of the Internet today?’ My goal is to support and contribute to the development and growth of the teaching, learning, research and artistic cultures at graduate and post-graduate levels. My knowledge specializes both contemporary and historical art forms and theories and my aim is to assist students and emerging artists to explore continuities of history, bridging connections through critical enquiry into contemporary themes that are important and relevant to the ways we live today.
